YOUR GREATEST POWER – Choosing

This short book by J. Martin Kobe was first published in the 1950s. Kobe argues that the ability to make conscious choices shapes every aspect of our lives. Kobe was an American author and psychologist born in 1908. This short series of excerpts highlights the concepts shared in this book.  The reader is encouraged to purchase the book for the in depth explanations that it offers.

The Second Chapter – Choosing

You are what you think you are is an old wise saying.  Kohe points out that often what we think is our limiting factor.

“That is what we need, if we are going to improve our...positions. If we do not change our thinking, we can never hope to change our ...positions. What most of us fail to realize is that a tooth grows from the inside out. So we much change our inner thoughts. As we change our inner thoughts...the outward change is bound to come about. So let us choose good, healthy thoughts."

"Too many people through their own failure to use this great power have made themselves slaves to the very thing they have wanted to avoid. ... but these same people could be making use of this great power to choose. They could start to fill their minds with better things."

It is all to easy to see, hear, smell, touch, taste and absorb concepts that seek to limit us.  Concepts like you are sick and will die unless….., you are not popular unless…., you are not cool unless…., you are not going to heaven unless….. you are going to hell unless….etc.

If we but filled our minds with concepts of better things we would eventually follow a path toward those things rather than being swayed by the concepts of others.  But many limit their power to choose:

"I would like ..., but... . As long as you continue to say [and believe the part after the but] you will go all through your life" holding that belief as your truth. "Choose a better thought. ...when you build up the thought ... of expectancy you build up your hope. Never destroy your hope. When you destroy your hope, then you have created for yourself a life of difficulty and disappointment."

"Hope gave him spirit. The spirit moved him to do things so that he could achieve" his expectation. "When you say 'I can't', everything stops. The hope is gone, the mind becomes dulled, the spirit is gone, then we choose to believe that nothing can be done about it. This great power, the power to choose, will give you the necessary hope, the necessary spirit, the necessary courage to carry on and get you thing things from life that you really want."

"'Thoughts are things.' [is a concept] We like to change [this statement] to read thoughts become things."

EVERY invention ever created first began with a thought. Something like I wonder if ... and outlining a vision, or hope, of an achievement. Our general life circumstances are no different.

What "you want out of life are thoughts first, before they become things. Our condition is a thought first [and then] it becomes a reality. If we want to change...we must first change our thought. If we choose to change our inner thoughts our outer conditions must change."

As the Law of attraction states: "the more that you focus on your desires the more they will gravitate to you."
