Introduction
The new version of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans marks the most significant change to the government's recommendations for our diet since 1980. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030 makes some significant changes. For example it now encourages people to eat more proteins, and specifically animal proteins, encouraging fat and oils that have long been shunned, and putting a clear focus on eating real, whole foods, rather than highly processed foods.
People often prefer whole foods, who doesn't like a good home-cooked meal, but in our current era because of lifestyle choices people are choosing convenience over nutrition, processed foods over preparing naturally grown foods.
In this short series of articles we will look at one of the guidelines to introduce you to their concepts. Remember, however, that these are just guidelines.
There is, and has not been for 50 years, any requirement that the food industry follow them. They are guidelines and goals. Like the goals made every January, it takes constant reminding to continue to practice your new years resolutions. Consider these short articles your reminder to continue to focus on Real Food and not concession stand condiments.
